Lizzy Caplan, who was born ‘Elizabeth Anne Caplan’ on June 30, 1982 in Los Angeles, California grew up in a Reform Jewish family with her older sister Julie and older brother Ben. Lizzy attended the LA-based Alexander Hamilton High School with fellow actor Emile Hirsch. Although Caplan initially studied piano, she developed an interest in performing arts and landed main roles in school productions such as “You Can’t Take it with You” and “Much Ado about Nothing.”
Just a year before graduating from high school, Lizzy Caplan began acting professionally, starting with a role in the 2000 TV-movie “From Where I Sit.” She then landed a four-episode role on the TV series “Freaks and Geeks.”
Lizzy Caplan graduated high school in 2000, but continued her acting career in the small screen with guest roles on TV shows such as “Undeclared,” “Once and Again” and the TV-movies “Close to Home” and “Everybody’s Doing It.” In 2002, she made her film debut with a minor role on Jack Black’s comedy movie “Orange County. From 2002 to 2005, Lizzy Caplan continued to appear on various TV shows such as “Smallville,” “The Pitts,” and “Tru Calling.”
In 2003, Lizzy appeared on the movie “Hardcore Action News.” However, the role that made Lizzy Caplan break into mainstream came when she landed the sidekick role Janis Ian on the 2004 Lindsay Lohan comedy “Mean Girls.” The following year, Lizzy landed a starring role on the series “Related,” playing Marjee Sorelli until 2006. She also appeared in the movie “Love Is the Drug” with the role of Sara Weller. During this time, her acting chops have been getting noticed by both critics and fans; Lizzy Caplan was included in Variety's 2006 Top 10 Actors to Watch.
Other TV shows where Lizzy Caplan had appeared include “The Class,” “True Blood” and “Party Down.” Some of her recent movie credits include “Crashing,” “Cloverfield,” “My Best Friend’s Girl,” “Crossing Over,” and “The Last Rites of Ransom Pride.”
